Custom duct fabrication Cape Town

Custom Duct Design and Sheet Metal Fabrication

Bespoke galvanized sheet metal plenum boxes, square duct networks, transition branches and ducted AC routing designed around the actual building structure. We focus on mechanical layout, service access, structural supports, static pressure, air balancing and long-term maintainability.

Mechanical engineering mindset

Ductwork planned around structure, pressure and airflow

A ducted AC system is not just a box and a grille. The plenum volume, branch geometry, turning losses, damper access, ceiling void, support points and return-air path all affect performance. We custom-design and fabricate HVAC sheet metal plenum boxes, transition pieces and square duct sections so the installation fits the building instead of forcing off-the-shelf ducting into a difficult space.

Air handler science

The air handler is the heart of the ducted system

The air handler does not simply "blow air". It pulls return air from the building, moves it across filters and coils, then pushes conditioned air through the duct network. If the air handler, ductwork and return path are not designed together, comfort, noise level, efficiency and indoor air quality all suffer.

What it does

The blower motor creates the pressure difference that moves air through the filters, coil, plenum, branch ducts and room outlets. Correct airflow keeps rooms balanced and protects the refrigeration circuit.

What is inside

A typical air handler may include a blower wheel, motor, evaporator coil, condensate tray, filters, sensors and dampers. Each part affects static pressure, cooling capacity, moisture removal and service access.

Speed and control

Single-speed, multi-speed and variable-speed air handlers behave differently. Variable-speed systems can improve comfort and energy use by matching airflow more closely to load instead of running full blast.

Maintenance signs

Weak airflow, uneven rooms, noisy ducts, dirty filters, blocked coils, water leaks or rising energy use can point to air-handler problems. Maintenance should include filter condition, coil cleanliness, drain flow, blower load and duct leakage checks.

System detail

The parts that make a ducted system work properly

Good ducted AC work depends on more than the indoor and outdoor units. The sheet metal, diffuser boxes, duct route, return path and access points decide whether the system can move air quietly and be maintained later.

Ducted air conditioning system layout through multiple rooms
System layout Indoor unit position, branch lengths, flexible duct runs and outlet placement must match the floor plan and load distribution.
Custom sheet metal plenum box with linear air outlet
Plenum and diffuser boxes Plenum volume, outlet position and joint quality affect air velocity, noise and throw from each supply grille.
Mechanical plant room with air handlers, ductwork and service access
Plant room access and maintenance Plant rooms need safe service clearance, filter access, coil cleaning access and clear routes for future repairs.
Outdoor inverter condenser unit for ducted AC system
Outdoor unit and commissioning Condenser airflow, pipe route, drainage, electrical supply and final commissioning all influence reliability.

Compliance and sign-off

Correct scope, correct artisan, correct certificate

Our service model respects the South African Pressure Equipment Regulations without limiting the size of the project we can take on. Fixakitchen manages the mechanical design, ducting, sheet metal, installation coordination and site execution, while regulated refrigeration commissioning and CoC sign-off are brought under the correct authorised refrigeration gas practitioner for the scope. For larger commercial systems, that means coordinating with trusted Category B, Red Seal and accredited refrigeration artisans where required.

Mechanical scopeDesign, duct fabrication, supports, routing, access and installation coordination managed as one project
Accredited artisanCategory B, Red Seal or authorised refrigeration practitioners brought in when the regulated scope requires it
CoC routeCertificates of Conformity are issued by the authorised practitioner responsible for the refrigerant-side work

Send the details that make the design accurate

For custom ducting, ducted AC, commercial cooling or maintenance pricing, send photos and the technical context. Good information at the start makes it easier to size ductwork, plan supports, estimate access time and allocate the correct accredited artisan for commissioning and final sign-off where regulated refrigeration work is involved.
